So day four I didn’t see much I checked out Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed Revelations and also Skyrim. The reason being I was in the queue for Assassins Creed Revelations for 5 hours! That was so long I really appreciate the 2 hour Batman queue. So in Assassins Creed we saw a demo which looked pretty cool but then we got to try out multi-player and well I wasn’t really impressed by that. So mixed reviews for Assassins Creed Revelations but to be perfectly honest multi-player isn’t really an issue for me. So in terms of the single player campaign it looked okay. I haven’t played the Assassins Creed games but I’ve always wanted too. We watched a trailer for Mass Effect 3 and got to play a bit of the game and it was cool. Like it’s totally not my sort of game but I appreciate it as a game. I can see why it’s so good and why people enjoy it. But I doubt I’ll be playing the series anytime soon. And lastly I watched some in game footage of Skyrim and that looked really cool. Like my sisters really into those games and it’s fun watching her play them so I imagine I’ll watch her play Skyrim. So that was Day four not a lot too it really but oh well I got to check out some games I wouldn’t really look at like Mass Effect 3.
So Day five was my last day at Gamescom and I managed to get a look at Zelda Skyward Sword, Gotham City imposters and Rage and Prey 2. So I checked out Zelda Skyward Sword first thing in the morning and well lets just say the only way I can play Zelda is with a guide plus I didn’t really like the controls. Then again it was the first time playing Zelda on the wii so maybe after time you would become adjusted to the controls. So yeah I didn’t enjoy playing Zelda but I imagine its a really good game, I just needed time to get used to the controls. Next I got to see a demo for Prey 2 and that actually looked quite interesting, it looked like a hard game but I was really intrigued by that game. Then we got to play Rage and it just reminded me of Borderlands, it looked really dull long and boring I wasn’t interested in that game.
Then I also got to check out Gotham City imposters, we played a couple of matches of that and I was really excited by that. I’m not usually into online games because well there online. But I would actually get that too be honest. It was a lot of fun and I was really excited when I was playing it. So from the looks of things the most exciting games I got too see at Gamescom were both Batman games. So I was really surprised by Gamescom, I got to see some games I didn’t know anything about and I also found some games that I want to play. So Gamescom was really cool heres hoping I get to go next year.

So today was my third day at Gamescom and it was another long and tiresome one. Checked out some cool stuff today like Battlefield 3, Batman Arkham City, Dark Souls, Punchtime Explosion and Far Cry 3. So firstly in the morning I played a bit of Battlefield 3 which was pretty cool, also got to see some in game footage beforehand now I think I preferred this to MW3 maybe that’s just because I’ve never played a battlefield game and so it was like a new game to me whereas I’m already familiar with MW. Also I got a free t-shirt which was pretty sweet. Next I checked out Dark Souls, now Dark Souls is definitely not my sort of game I wasn’t interested in it at all so I’ve not much to say on that. Now a game I did like was Punchtime Explosion, a game featuring a range of Cartoon Network characters which appealed to my childish side plus it had Ben 10 in it and he could transform into Ultimate Humungousaur so that is enough said really. It’s a fighting video game and it’s pretty cool how it features characters from cartoon network, I wish there were more fighting games like this with characters that appeal to me. Games like this just don’t happen enough.
Next I ended up waiting in a queue for over 2 hours to try out Batman Arkham City, and at first I didn’t think it’d be worth the wait but I was wrong. Arkham City looks pretty awesome. I’m really excited about this game and it’s definitely something I will end up buying, who knows I might even pre-order it (note I have only ever pre-ordered one game which was Little Big Planet 2, so me actually pre-ordering a game is a pretty big thing). I got really involved in the demo, I could have carried on playing for longer if they have let me. It was such an easy game to get into. I was involved in the characters and the story. It got my attention visually so all in all it looks to be a pretty good game. So far Arkham City has been the best thing I’ve seen at Gamescom.
Lastly I got to watch a trailer of some in game footage for Far Cry 3, I wasn’t very interested in this game. It didn’t like leave me on the edge of my seat wanting to get involved in the story to see how it progresses, which is a shame.
So today showed me some interesting new games I could get involved in so it’d be nice to finally get my hands on a copy of those when their released. I’m really enjoying Gamescom so far, it’s really opened my eyes to the multitude of games out there. So hopefully Day 4 will bring on some more goodies and some more good games.

Yesterday I played Modern Warfare 3 and today I played Battlefield 3. What did I think? Read my first impressions right here.
Let’s get this out of the way before we start. Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 are both first person shooters set in modern day. But that doesn’t mean Battlefield 3 is a carbon copy of modern warfare. In fact both games feel quite different and I think both deserve merit in there own right. Anyway now that the comparison to COD is out of the way let’s talk about the actual game.
The demo I played was a 10 minute round of alpha multiplayer. In which each 32 man team had to capture 5 set points and hold them long enough for a flag to be raised. The map I was playing on was massive and the problem with massive maps is that it’s very difficult to get around. Battlefield 3 attempts to solve this by have a variety of vehicles. There was jets, helicopters tanks and jeeps. Most of the vehicles were simple to control, but there was one exception. The jet was impossible to control, now this might have just been me not being used to the controls but my first attempt at flying a jet ending with me plummeting to the ground upside down. Anyway despite this the other vehicles were fun to play around with and were actually useful in getting from the spawn point to the capture points.
In the demo I played there was 4 customisable classes. There was the assault class, which I played as, which is just an all round class but is also a medic with a defibrillator item. There was a engineer class, but I have no clue what his special abilities were. There was a sniper class that could send off a remote controlled helicopter to spy on the enemies and finally there was a 4th class which I can’t remember anything about. But you get the idea, there are 4 classes which were generic FPS classes. The guns felt accurately powerful and were fun to use. Obviously this is still alpha software so I imagine that there’s still a lot of balancing still to take place.
Graphically the game was stunning, the animation was smooth and the textures looked great. There was also a lot of destructible environments, which meant the cover you were using might not alway be there to rely on. I was playing on the PC and it really shows that it’s the lead platform. If you’ve got a PC that’ll run it at a decent spec, I suggest you really consider getting it on the PC.
So In the end I really enjoyed the battlefield 3 demo, They’ve manages to make a fun and interesting multiplayer without completely ripping off modern warfare. I’ll be picking this game up when it comes out in October.

So it’s been a few days since I’ve been at Gamescom so heres my little run-down of what I’ve been up too and seen.
So yesterday I arrived at Gamescom and to be fair I didn’t get round to doing much because I was so tired from the lack of sleep I was suffering from, darn you early flights. But I did check out Goldeneye reloaded and Metal Gear Solid 3D so I’ll talk about them later. I got quite a bit of swag which was pretty cool and I also checked out the Sony Ericsson Xperia play and got to see how Minecraft ran on that and I must say the next phone I’m getting is that! (yes that is just for Minecraft). So I checked out the Goldeneye reloaded which is basically the Wii game ported to the PS3 and XBOX 360 and even I (a relatively big James Bond fan) thought it was terrible. Not only that but in the screening I watched showing some in game footage they played the wrong James Bond music it wasn’t from Goldeneye. Hello get your act together people, although I have noticed that in some trailers for James Bond stuff they play the wrong music. Anyway the controls where really sensitive even though I did alter them to like the lowest sensitivity, which was annoying but oh well. The game didn’t look like a PS3 game the graphics were pretty bad. So all in all Goldeneye Reloaded seems pretty shitty. It makes me think they shouldn’t have bothered with a remake if they couldn’t keep it like the n64 version they really should have left it well alone. So next up was Metal Gear Solid 3D for the 3DS now that game persuades me that the 3DS isn’t sucky. I loved the third Metal Gear Solid game so to just get a chance to play it again is pretty cool. I must say though it controls like Peace Walker (PSP) and I hated Peace Walker controls so that did bug me. There were a few new elements added into the gameplay that just made use of the abilities of the 3DS which was pretty cool. So what I’d say is if you have a 3DS make sure you buy this game because it’s pretty cool. If you don’t then just play the one on the PS2, I’m sure when I get back to England that’s what I’ll be doing. So lastly for day 1 I checked out Minecraft on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Now I’ve been contemplating getting this phone for a while and when I tried out Minecraft on it, I was definitely sold. I really enjoy Minecraft and it plays well on the Xperia play. Not much more to say about that really.
So day 2, this was a lot more easier as I was actually awake and I got to check out a bunch more stuff like uncharted 3, resistance 3, the PS Vita and Modern warfare 3. So I played spec ops for MW3 and I’ve got to say nothing really different but I didn’t really expect anything different. It seems like it’ll be a good game so if your into MW I imagine you’ll run out and get it but if your not that interested (like me) then maybe just stick with whatever copy you have. Now the PS Vita that does seem pretty cool. The screen is awesome but horrible for fingerprints they show up a tad too easily so make sure you stock up on huggies pure wipes and microfibre cloths if you get it. I tried out some shitty games on it and yes I was incredibly peeved that someone else got to try LBP urgh! So I don’t really have much to say about the games, I don’t even remember what they were called but one was like a brain training thing so yeah. My other problem with the vita is the touch pad on the back, because it’s exactly where my fingers rest so of course should I buy the Vita I’m going to have to learn to hold it an entirely different way. So Uncharted 3 I got to try out them multiplayer on that which was pretty fun so that certainly piqued my curiosity. Also tried out resistance 3 (I’m noticing a lot of threes here) and that was okay I just don’t think it’s my sort of game.
So that is my run down of the first couple of days, hopefully I’ll be able to get over the fact that I didn’t play Little Big Planet during tomorrow at Gamescom.

How does infinity wards answer to zombie mode hold up? Find out right here in my first impressions.
So I’ll start by saying we were only allowed 10 minutes hands on time with the demo and in that time I only played one match on one map. Despite all this I think I have a good impression of how the mode will pan out. So basically you are thrown into a map and you have to fight of wave after wave of enemies with increasing difficulty. You earn money for kills which you spend on guns, perks, specials, ect. For that particular match. For the most part I don’t really have any problems with this but personally I would have preferred the perks to be permanent and part of a load out, but thats the only problem I have. The enemy AI is really good, they’ll hunt you down, take cover and try and flank you. It really does provide a decent challenge. As I mentioned earlier the enemies get harder each round, which forces you to buy stronger guns and such. There was one problem with this. We reached a point where the only enemies were choppers and we had no money for guns and only had ammo on a pistol. It was so frustrating just having to let the enemies kill you because there was no way to progress. I’m sure this could be easily fixed in balancing so I’m not too worried about it.
A big feature of this mode is that it can be played co-operatively with a friend. the demo we played was a LAN set up so I don’t know if it has split screen like the zombie mode, but I hope so. Co-op was great and your partner can revive you if your downed by an enemy. I think you can also revive a partner even if you yourself are in a downed state.
So overall the spec-ops survival mode seems like a really cool addition to modern warfare 3. It a very clever way of including the zombie mode but with a modern warfare feel.
