Gamescom - Days 1 and 2

So it’s been a few days since I’ve been at Gamescom so heres my little run-down of what I’ve been up too and seen.

So yesterday I arrived at Gamescom and to be fair I didn’t get round to doing much because I was so tired from the lack of sleep I was suffering from, darn you early flights. But I did check out Goldeneye reloaded and Metal Gear Solid 3D so I’ll talk about them later. I got quite a bit of swag which was pretty cool and I also checked out the Sony Ericsson Xperia play and got to see how Minecraft ran on that and I must say the next phone I’m getting is that! (yes that is just for Minecraft). So I checked out the Goldeneye reloaded which is basically the Wii game ported to the PS3 and XBOX 360 and even I (a relatively big James Bond fan) thought it was terrible. Not only that but in the screening I watched showing some in game footage they played the wrong James Bond music it wasn’t from Goldeneye. Hello get your act together people, although I have noticed that in some trailers for James Bond stuff they play the wrong music. Anyway the controls where really sensitive even though I did alter them to like the lowest sensitivity, which was annoying but oh well. The game didn’t look like a PS3 game the graphics were pretty bad. So all in all Goldeneye Reloaded seems pretty shitty. It makes me think they shouldn’t have bothered with a remake if they couldn’t keep it like the n64 version they really should have left it well alone. So next up was Metal Gear Solid 3D for the 3DS now that game persuades me that the 3DS isn’t sucky. I loved the third Metal Gear Solid game so to just get a chance to play it again is pretty cool. I must say though it controls like Peace Walker (PSP) and I hated Peace Walker controls so that did bug me. There were a few new elements added into the gameplay that just made use of the abilities of the 3DS which was pretty cool. So what I’d say is if you have a 3DS make sure you buy this game because it’s pretty cool. If you don’t then just play the one on the PS2, I’m sure when I get back to England that’s what I’ll be doing. So lastly for day 1 I checked out Minecraft on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Now I’ve been contemplating getting this phone for a while and when I tried out Minecraft on it, I was definitely sold. I really enjoy Minecraft and it plays well on the Xperia play. Not much more to say about that really.

So day 2, this was a lot more easier as I was actually awake and I got to check out a bunch more stuff like uncharted 3, resistance 3, the PS Vita and Modern warfare 3. So I played spec ops for MW3 and I’ve got to say nothing really different but I didn’t really expect anything different. It seems like it’ll be a good game so if your into MW I imagine you’ll run out and get it but if your not that interested (like me) then maybe just stick with whatever copy you have. Now the PS Vita that does seem pretty cool. The screen is awesome but horrible for fingerprints they show up a tad too easily so make sure you stock up on huggies pure wipes and microfibre cloths if you get it. I tried out some shitty games on it and yes I was incredibly peeved that someone else got to try LBP urgh! So I don’t really have much to say about the games, I don’t even remember what they were called but one was like a brain training thing so yeah. My other problem with the vita is the touch pad on the back, because it’s exactly where my fingers rest so of course should I buy the Vita I’m going to have to learn to hold it an entirely different way. So Uncharted 3 I got to try out them multiplayer on that which was pretty fun so that certainly piqued my curiosity. Also tried out resistance 3 (I’m noticing a lot of threes here) and that was okay I just don’t think it’s my sort of game.

So that is my run down of the first couple of days, hopefully I’ll be able to get over the fact that I didn’t play Little Big Planet during tomorrow at Gamescom.
